Christine Martinez, fashion blogger and the fourth most-followed Pinterest user was selected by fashion label Calypso to fly to St. Barth’s to “live pin” images from a photo shoot. The images are posted to a board created by Calypso St. Bath’s Pinterest page. Christine was selected for the program because she is a Calypso shopper and her personal boards reflect the Calypso brand image.
Many brands are starting to connect with fans through Pinterest. One example is Modcloth, who is running a contest called “Something ModCloth, something You” where users have the chance to win a $100 gift certificate by creating boards based on ModCloth’s contest requirements.
Implications: Pinterest has seen an over 2,000% increase in growth over the past year and you should evaluate if and how you can fit into the environment built around pinning and repinning images. Campaigns incorporating the newly-popular platform are generating social conversations you can be a part of.
