Lady Gaga has an impressive fan base in social media with close to 19 million Twitter followers. Now she has taken a plunge deeper into the online world with the closed beta launch of her very own social network, LittleMonsters.com.
Backlane, a startup Lady Gaga has invested in, has created a new community for Lady Gaga fans to create and share content, interact with other Little Monsters, and in a Reddit-like style show what content they like. The site focuses on sharing visuals with a platform that looks similar to Pinterest.
Implications: Instead of creating an entirely new platform, you should consider ways to partner with existing applications. Starting over with a user base of zero to ask people to join a completely new service is a mistake when so many people are already comfortable using services like Facebook.
