Channel 4 intends to provide a boost to struggling small UK independent television producers with a budget increase of about 12 per cent, its chief executive will announce, in a move that comes as other broadcasters are mulling cuts to new commissions.
Despite facing what most analysts believe will be a tough trading year for advertising-supported broadcasters, David Abraham will say in a speech on Wednesday that he is planning to invest £450m in 2012.
