Tuesday 9/20/11 – New Girl a Hit, Unforgettable Solid

Day 2 of the 11/12 broadcast season brought Zooey Deschanel to FOX as quirky Jess Day in New Girl. The premiere drew the largest A18-49 audience of the night (3.7 A18-49 Live Rtg), growing one full rating point out of its Glee premiere lead-in, while also posting a 40% advantage over year ago’s Raising Hope debut. Unfortunately, Glee’s season opener stumbled at 8pm, averaging a 2.7 A18-49 Rtg and losing one-third of that audience from last fall’s premiere. Season 2 of Raising Hope fared better, down just a tenth from year ago (2.5 A18-49 Rtg).

CBS owned the overall night as NCIS, NCIS: LA and Poppy Montgomery’s Unforgettable drove the network to an A18-49 win. The 9th season premiere of NCIS continued its long-running success, experiencing single-digit gains (+6%) over last year, averaging a 3.4 A18-49 Rtg. Spin-off NCIS: LA held steady from the year ago benchmark (3.0 A18-49 Rtg), while freshman series, Unforgettable garnered a 12% larger audience (2.5 A18-49 Rtg) in the demo versus last fall’s Good Wife debut on 9/28/10.

DWTS’ Results show on ABC faltered at 9pm as A18-49 viewership declined 33% from year ago. With a weaker lead-in, the season 2 premiere of Body of Proof also fell, down 29% from its spring debut, while down 9% from the Detroit 1-8-7 premiere.

With heavy competition, NBC’s aging Biggest Loser premiere suffered a 24% loss among A18-49, averaging a 1.9 rating. Week 2 of Parenthood delivered roughly similar audiences as last week, down just 2%.

Week 2 of CW's Tuesday line-up of 90210 and Ringer also trended down, both series eroding by double-digit percentages.
