ZenithOptimedia NZ - Blog - The PUMA® Social Club NZ: A Haven for the After-Hours Athlete

Sportlifestyle brand opens pop-up retail and nightlife venue featuring bar, billiards and, sometimes, burgers

July 5th, 2011, Auckland, NZ – Victory doesn't always come in the form of a winning on-field goal or a walk-off home run.  Sometimes, victory is just as simple as a phone number after a long night out on the town.  This September, sportlifestyle brand, PUMA®, salutes these special competitive moments with the launch of The PUMA Social Club NZ, the place for the social games we play off  the field with friends, when the sun goes down.  Open from September 15th through October 21st in Central Auckland, The PUMA Social Club NZ pays homage to the After Hours Athlete – those who enjoy the smell of victory and the agony of defeat, all with a drink in hand, wearing their favourite pair of PUMA kicks.  Has competition ever felt this good?

A 1,376 square metre venue located in Shed 1 and 2, 101 Halsey Street in the Viaduct Harbour Marine Village, The PUMA Social Club NZ is a pop-up retail and nightlife venue that will bring the concept of “vintage” social sports – games like darts, pool, foosball, table tennis and pinball – to life.  Celebrating the notion of being social, not just online but in real life, PUMA Social is about having fun and being with friends.

The front of The PUMA Social Club NZ will house two 40 foot shipping containers, converted to create the brands first Concept Store in New Zealand.  The PUMA Container Store will carry the unofficial uniform for the late-night owl – from that classic PUMA Track Jacket, to the perfect kicks for a night on the town.

When the sun goes down, The PUMA Social Club NZ will come alive, hosting a wide variety of eclectic programming featuring social sport events, music, lounging and all around good times.  Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, 9pm till late, enthusiasts can enjoy foosball and interactive gaming in the PlayStation® Suite, plus table tennis matches on the exclusive PUMA Aruliden Chalk Table V2.

Designed with the ultimate rec room in mind, The PUMA Social Club NZ has hints of chalkboard walls, raw wood, corrugated steel, neon lights and plush lounge furniture.  With a fully-operational cash bar and nighttime snacks available, guests will certainly never go thirsty and can satisfy their late night munchies.  Throughout the six week event, PUMA has partnered with legendary brand Red Bull and New Zealand icon, BurgerFuel, serving guests up their signature burgers alongside the drink that gives you wings.

Highlight events over the course of the five weeks include:

The PT3 (PUMA Ping Pong Tournament) feat. The Dream Team on September 16th

  • NZ’s own Kiwipong Beer pong Competition on September 30th
  • Red Bull Skate Ramp from October 6th – October 9th
  • BurgerFuel Eating Competition on October 14
  • SingStar™ Competition with PlayStation® on October 15

A full schedule of events, hours of operation and guest appearances will be released and updated on www.puma.com/social.  All evening events are 20+.

The first PUMA Social Club appeared on June 10, 2010 as part of PUMA City NY at the South Street Seaport.  Open through July 11, 2010, The PUMA Social Club NY hosted a wide variety of events celebrating the global sport of soccer, as well as music events with artists such as The Pretty Reckless, Jay Sean and Big Boi.
