FT.com / Media - ITV and C4 flinch at local TV aid request

The government wants commercial television companies to contribute tens of millions of pounds to support a project to launch local TV stations around the UK.

Two people familiar with the situation said Jeremy Hunt, the culture secretary, had asked ITV for a cash contribution running into tens of millions of pounds a year, and that Channel 4 had also been asked to give substantial support.
