More engaging content, including casual games and sponsored video programming. helped Yahoo to beat quarterly profit expectations and increase advertising revenue.

Yahoo executives said on Tuesday that increases in audience size, pages viewed and time spent on its network of sites showed that its turnround strategy was bearing fruit even as search-related ad revenue is atrophying under a technology partnership with Microsoft.
